Trex Composite Decking

Trex Composite Deck Installation

Deck Pros Plus installs Trex composite decking on new deck builds and complete deck replacement projects throughout Louisville, Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Trex is one of the most recognized composite decking brands available — known for its durability, low-maintenance surface, and wide range of color and profile options.

Before recommending Trex or any other decking material, we evaluate the existing deck structure. If the framing, posts, beams, joists, or ledger connections are deteriorated or undersized, we recommend structural rebuilding as part of the project. Installing new composite decking over a compromised structure is not something we do — the structure has to be right first.

Composite Decking Benefits

Why Homeowners Choose Trex Composite Decking

Low Maintenance

Trex composite decking does not require annual staining, sealing, or painting. Routine cleaning with soap and water is typically all that is needed to keep the surface looking good.

Durability

Trex composite decking is engineered to resist fading, staining, scratching, and mold. It is designed to hold up to the weather conditions common in Louisville and Southern Indiana.

Color & Profile Options

Trex is available in a range of colors, finishes, and board profiles. We help homeowners compare options based on their home's exterior, budget, and long-term goals.

Long-Term Value

While composite decking typically costs more upfront than pressure-treated wood, the reduced maintenance costs and longer service life make it a practical long-term investment for many homeowners.

Our Process

Our Approach to Trex Deck Installation

Every Trex deck project starts with a structural evaluation. We assess the existing deck's footings, posts, beams, joists, ledger connections, and overall condition before recommending a scope of work. If the structure is sound, we can install new Trex decking on the existing frame. If the structure is deteriorated, undersized, or otherwise unsuitable, we recommend a complete rebuild — including new framing, posts, beams, and joist protection — before the Trex decking goes down.

1

Structural Evaluation

We evaluate the existing deck structure — footings, posts, beams, joists, ledger connections, and decking condition — before recommending any scope of work.

2

Scope of Work

We provide a clear written scope of work covering exactly what is included — whether that is new decking only, partial structural work, or a complete deck replacement.

3

Framing & Joist Protection

Where new framing is required, we install properly sized beams, posts, and joists. We apply joist tape at critical connection points to protect framing from moisture intrusion.

4

Trex Decking Installation

We install Trex composite decking boards according to manufacturer installation guidelines, with proper spacing, fastening, and edge treatment for a finished, long-lasting result.

5

Railings & Stairs

We install railing systems and stairs as part of the project scope. Railing options include aluminum, composite, and wood systems designed for safety, code compliance, and long-term durability.

Structural Considerations

Why the Structure Underneath Your Trex Deck Matters

Trex composite decking is a significant investment. Getting the most out of that investment depends on what's underneath it. Composite decking installed on a compromised or improperly built frame will not perform the way it should — regardless of the quality of the decking material itself.

Joist Spacing & Flatness

Composite decking has specific joist spacing requirements that differ from wood decking. Joists that are too far apart, improperly crowned, or out of plane can cause composite boards to flex, gap, or show surface irregularities over time. We verify joist spacing and condition before any composite decking goes down.

Framing Condition

Rot, insect damage, or structural deterioration in the existing framing cannot be hidden under new composite boards. We evaluate the condition of every structural member — beams, posts, joists, and ledger connections — before recommending whether to retain or replace the existing frame.

Flashing & Water Management

Proper flashing at the ledger board and joist tape at connection points protect the framing from moisture intrusion. These details are easy to skip and difficult to fix after the decking is installed. We include them as standard practice on every project.

Ledger Connection

The ledger board connects the deck to the house. An improperly installed or deteriorated ledger connection is a structural safety concern — and one that composite decking cannot fix. We inspect and, where necessary, rebuild the ledger connection as part of the project scope.
